We pride ourselves on the school’s inclusive, caring and supportive ethos. All learners are valued as individuals and their varying needs are supported with sensitivity. We pay particular attention to the provision made for, and the achievement of, different groups of learners within the school, and respond to individual needs in ways which consider their varied life experiences and particular needs.

We are also committed to:

  • the successful inclusion of learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and those with short term barriers
  • promoting and providing all learners with a person-centred education, paying attention to what is important to and what is important for the child

Communication with Families / Parent Partnership

Learners are at the centre of everything we do and we firmly believe that working with families and ensuring the cooperation of parents is key to building a successful relationship with any learner. We are committed to establishing and maintaining good working relationships with the families of all learners and recognise the importance of establishing a partnership between home, school and the Local Authority. Parents are kept informed of learner’s progress and are encouraged to play an active part in learning and supporting targets set.

We also encourage parents to contact the school if there is anything that concerns them. Parents should discuss these first with the class teacher, who will inform the Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator, if necessary.

Advice and/or Support from External Agencies

Where progress is less than expected, high-quality teaching, including differentiation and standard, routine interventions or reasonable adjustments, may not be sufficient to meet the needs of all learners. Where additional support is needed to develop school practice, or to address a learner’s individual needs, the school’s Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator (ALNCo) is well placed to work with external agencies and specialist teams within the Local Authority (LA), including NHS health professionals.

If it is decided that a learner needs an Individual Development Plant (IDP), or a referral to an external agency, we will maintain contact with parents and work closely with them and any necessary team or agency.
