A Safe Space to Learn and Grow
Our Wellbeing Hub
The Cwtch is a learning environment that has been specifically designed to address the social and emotional needs of our learners. The focus is on developing skills that will reduce or break down barriers that prevent them from learning, thereby enabling them to experience success back in the classroom. It is a small, separate classroom, which provides a safe, structured environment.
Our Cwtch is established around five main purposes:
‘Cwtch Clyd’: Morning nurture sessions for vulnerable learners in order to identify obstacles and offer comfort and readiness to learn.
‘Cwtch Cysur’: Sessions for individuals or groups of learners who experience difficulty in terms of emotional literacy and/or social interaction.
‘Cwtch Cilio’: A safe space during the day for learners to manage and regulate their emotions.
‘Cwtch Cymdeithasu’: A series of lunchtime clubs that offer support and comfort to learners who find it difficult to play and socialise with others.
‘Cwtch Cyfathrebu’ (for parents/carers): A series of meetings to build relationships and identify obstacles to learning beyond the school’s boundaries.
We therefore trust that the Cwtch’s support and interventions:
- help learners to better understand their emotions and feelings
- help learners feel comfortable when sharing any worries or anxieties
- help learners to form and maintain social relationships
- help promote self-esteem and ensure that learners know that they are of value
- encourages learners to be confident and to celebrate who they are
- help learners to develop emotional resilience and to manage difficult situations
